SUMMARY:Beginning Vermicomposting
DESCRIPTION:Join SA Composting Project for an introduction to Eisinia foetida\, commonly known as the red wiggler worm\, and how to compost with worms. Composting is one of the best ways to reduce our own waste\, produce new life for plants\, drastically improve soil quality\, increase moisture retention\, and so much more. Closing the waste loop is critical to becoming more sustainable\, and it is super easy to do! \nParticipants will learn about how to vermicompost at home. We will assemble 27-qt habitats that you can take home for a small donation for supplies\, using shredded cardboard with an ounce of red wiggler worms\, while learning about how vermicomposting benefits soil health in gardening/landscapes. Help reduce organic waste at the source\, improve garden soil quality\, increase soil saturation capacity and water conservation.

SUMMARY:CULTIVATE! Winning the Weed War - Online Learning
DESCRIPTION:Weeds just are. Join Bill Swantner as he moves beyond the traditional\, often frustrating\, battle against weeds. Bill will help you explore how understanding the ecology of weeds – their life cycles\, competitive strategies\, and preferred growing conditions – is key to effective management. Instead of solely focusing on reactive removal\, Bill will help you delve into proactive\, integrated strategies. This includes methods like proper soil health and preparation to discourage weed establishment\, the strategic use of mulches\, and adopting targeted removal techniques that minimize disruption. The goal is to equip the gardener with the knowledge and tools to create a resilient\, low-maintenance landscape where desirable plants thrive\, and weeds become a minor nuisance rather than an overwhelming adversary.
