You don’t need to be Ansel Adams. Just follow these simple tips and tricks for successful before-and-after photos.
There’s a lot of truth to the phrase “a picture is worth a thousand words” — especially when it comes to applying for our WaterSaver coupon and rebate programs.
In addition to removing grass/irrigation in the project area and providing a sketch of your plan, good before-and-after photos are required for your application. Don’t worry, you don’t need to be Ansel Adams.
These simple tips and tricks will ensure success and streamline the acceptance of your coupon or rebate application.
Wide angles work.
Since both the WaterSaver Landscape Coupon and Outdoor Living Rebate require removing at least 200 square feet of grass, you’ll need to take photos that capture the entire project area. Try backing up as far as you can until you see as much of the area as possible. To increase the area you aim to capture with your phone camera, use the 0.5x camera setting to get a wider angle.
Don’t neglect the before.
When you’re taking the before photo, consider the angles — you’ll want to duplicate them for the after pics too. This makes comparing them much more impactful. And don’t forget to submit the after photos to your post inspection for both the WaterSaver Landscape Coupon and Outdoor Living Rebate. Before-and-after pics are also good to have for your personal records.

Downsize image file for easier uploading.
If you get an error message (when submitting your application online) or the photos won’t attach, it could be the file is too large. Improved phone camera quality in recent years has increased the file size. An easy fix is to zoom in! This is where taking those wide angles comes in handy — you can zoom in to the specific area you want to convert and still have a wide angle before-photo for your own records. You could also downsize the file in your camera roll before submitting.
The fall WaterSaver Landscape Coupons are now available. Applications will be accepted through Oct. 15. The Outdoor Living Rebate is available year-round. Of course, if you have any questions, give us a call at 210-704-SAVE (7283) and we’ll be happy to assist you.
