DESCRIPTION:Join us for Bexar Branches Alliance’s 2nd Annual Trees & Torque at MLK Park at the Wheatley Heights Sports Complex! This free\, family-friendly event promotes trees as air and heat island mechanics while raising awareness about San Antonio’s poor air quality. \nWe will be handing out 300 free trees to community members\, giving residents the chance to plant and care for their own trees while learning about the benefits they provide for air quality\, shade\, and overall community health. The day will also feature live music\, local sustainability organizations\, interactive booths\, educational demonstrations\, and other engaging activities for all ages. \nThe car show is a highlight of the event\, showcasing classic\, custom\, and enthusiast vehicles. Car show registration is $30 per vehicle\, and we are also seeking sponsors and volunteers to help make the event a success.\nThis event is a celebration of community\, conservation\, and creativity\, bringing together car enthusiasts\, environmental advocates\, and families to promote a greener\, healthier San Antonio. Participants will gain hands-on experience with tree care and connect with local organizations working to improve the region’s urban forest.

Together\, we are empowering citizens to help our city’s young trees thrive. \nWe train volunteers in proper pruning techniques to improve the health and structure of newly planted trees across our community’s public spaces\, including city parks\, historic cemeteries\, and along creekways. This essential care ensures their survival and long-term growth\, directly supporting the city’s sustainability\, beautification\, and canopy goals. \nWhat You’ll Do: \n\nLearn the “why” behind pruning and how it benefits our urban canopy in diverse ecosystems.\nGet hands-on training with proper tools and techniques from certified arborists.\nConnect with a community of like-minded volunteers.\nDirectly contribute to the health and resilience of San Antonio’s vital green spaces.\n\nThis orientation is your first step to joining our monthly volunteer sessions\, which run on the first Saturday of each month from October through May.
